On Monday, October 22, the third-grade class went on a field trip to the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell, GA. As part of the Raptor Program, they hiked along the wetland trail, looking for signs of raptors and stopping along the way to learn about these amazing birds. After the hike, they had an up-close encounter with an adorable screech owl then took a walk by the enclosures that house many non-releasable birds of prey. They were thrilled to see hawks, owls, and bald eagles. In the Watershed Gallery in the Discovery Center they enjoyed interactive exhibits, live animal habitats, and hands-on fun.
After a wonderful picnic lunch (which included celebrating FOUR class birthdays), the students were so excited to finally dissect owl pellets. They were amazed to find all the tiny bones of the owl's prey and match them to a chart.
